Local
scholarships are separated into "Seasons" based on the application
release dates from the previous school year. Some of these release
dates, however, may differ in the current year. Check with your counselor
for application copies. Click on the name of each scholarship below for
more detailed information and application links.
Notice to students from
high schools outside of AISD:
Many of the local scholarships listed below are available to students
in the Big Country who do not attend an AISD school. For applications
and eligibility, contact your high school counselor or the awarding agency
and read descriptions on this website. The AEF does not have application
copies and only provides a resource to make students aware of the scholarships
offered through our high school counselors. If you attend a school outside
of AISD, be sure to check the website of the Community
Foundation of Abilene for additional scholarships that may be available
for your specific high school which are not listed on this website.

Chapter of Texas Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship
Senior with GPA 85+ and planning to pursue a
collegiate degree in engineering in a Texas school with an accredited
program.
Abilene Retired Teachers
Association
Three $1000 scholarships given to students who
will attend college with the intention of entering the teaching profession.

Seniors planning to attend a Texas career college
or school (example: American Commercial College, UTI, ESS); demonstrate
financial need, academic excellence, and student leadership.
Cory
Gilliland Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
Friends and relatives
of Cory Gilliland established this scholarship to honor the memory of
an incredibly positive and gifted young man. A scholarship is awarded
annually to a Cooper High School senior who is an active member of Young
Life of Abilene.
Dr.
Robert and Jean LeGrand Scholarship
A $1,000,000 endowment fund established by Dr.
Robert LeGrand and his wife Jean Ann provides scholarships for entering
freshmen from area communities within a 150-mile radius of San Angelo.
Must have graduated in the top 50% of their
graduating classes. Must be recommended by their high school principals.
Greater
Abilene Ministers Alliance Scholarship Fund
Established in 1998, this fund provides scholarships
to underprivileged college students, selected by a scholarship committee
composed of ministers and Foundation Trustees. Local students received
$1,000 annual awards to attend the college or university of their choice.
Scholarships are renewable for up to four years.

and Della Mae Moore Scholarship
Graduating senior planning to enter an agricultural-related
field of study.
Miss
Snake Charmer Scholarship Program
Girls between the ages of 16 -19 living within
a 75 mile radius of Sweetwater.
National
Honor Society Scholarship
Graduating seniors who are active members of
National Honor Society and plan to attend a degree-granting institution.
Nicholas
Whitaker Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This fund was established
in memory of Nicholas Whitaker by his friends and family. Nicholas, son
of Bill and Bit Whitaker, was a 2002 graduate of Wylie High School and
named "Best All-Around Boy" of his class. This annual award
will be granted to a Wylie High School graduating senior who exhibits
interest and proficiency in theatre and/or choir. Preference will be given
to a student who will be majoring in either theatre or music in his/her
college studiesSelection process has not been determined. Community

Perry
Bentley Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
Friends of Perry Bentley, a former Abilene
artist, established this fund after his early death in 1986. The fund
provides a significant four year scholarship for the area high school
senior who is selected as the winner of the annual juried art show at
McMurry University. Contact McMurry Art Department for additional information.
Roy
Churchill Memorial Fund (CFA)
This fund honors Roy Churchill's life as a husband,
father, friend and athlete. Well known for his achievements as an Abilene
High and ACU baseball player in the 1970's, Mr. Churchil's scholarship
is awarded annually to an Abilene High graduating senior who participated
in varsity athletics and demonstrates high Christian morals, leadership,
academic achievement and a belief in hard work. Contact AHS counselor

Thomas Memorial Scholarship
AHS senior planning to attend Texas Tech; financial
need.
San Angelo Stock Show &
Rodeo Scholarship
Renewable $1000 scholarship
for seniors who have participated in the SA Stock Show. Check with your
school counselor.
Sara
Abel Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
Many friends helped establish
a fund in memory of Sara, Nancy, Steve, and Ashley Abel's daughter and
beloved sister who was tragically killed in an auto accident in 2003.
At that time, Sara was classified as a junior St. Edwards University in
Austin, Texas. An accomplished writer, Sara was editor-in-chief of the
Abilene High School newspaper, The Battery, and majored in English Writing
& Rhetoric at St. Edwards. Check

Taylor
County Farm Bureau Scholarship
Applicant or parents of applicant must have
Farm Bureau membership for a year; planning to attend an accredited college.
Taylor-Jones-Haskell
Medical Society Alliance Scholarship fund (CFA)
This scholarship fund was established in the early 1970's as a result
of Health Careers Day for students interested in the ancillary fields
of medicine. Since that time, the Alliance has continued to support the
scholarship cause. The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage big
country students to pursue careers as physicians, nurses, and other heath
care professionals. The $1,000.00 scholarships are granted yearly. Scholarships
are awarded on the basis of scholastic ability, character, financial need,
and school and community achievements. Applicants must be a resident of
Taylor, Jones, or Haskell County for at least one year and applicants

Tom
Kutch Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
This scholarship honors Allen Thomas Kutch,
a long time teacher and administrator in the Rule School District. It
is awarded annually to an outstanding graduate of Rule High School.
Voice
of Democracy Scholarship
10th, 11th, or 12th grade student records
3-5 minute speech on specified patriotic theme.

Abilene
A&M Club Scholarship (Community Foundation of Abilene awarded)
The Abilene A&M Club, Inc. created this scholarship
in 1998. Awards will be made to graduates of local high schools who are
attending college at Texas A&M University in College Station. Scholastic
achievement, potential, financial need, extracurricular activities and
part-time employment will be considered for this award. For additional

Education Foundation 2008 Scholarship
AEF scholarships seek to help
graduating AISD seniors reach their full educational and career potential
in the pursuit of post-secondary studies. Deserving students with financial
need shall be considered for these renewable scholarships that may be
used for attendance at a 4-year University or 2-year Junior/Community
College (Technical and Vocational schools are not eligible). Scholarships
may be used for direct costs including tuition, academic fees, books and/or
college sponsored room and board. DEADLINE: APPLICATIONS MUST BE

Clack
Educational Fund (CFA)
This fund was established in 1982 and transferred
to the Community Foundation in 1987 as one of the Foundation's first scholarships.
It honors the Misses Tommie and Bobbie Clack for their Abilene teaching
careers that spanned three generations. Clack scholarships are awarded
annually to outstanding high school seniors in the Big Country based on
exemplary record of academic excellence and leadership, and financial
need. Application forms may be obtained from school counselor or downloaded

Ratliff Memorial Scholarship
Awarded by the Kiwanis Club to seniors active
in athletics; planning to attend an accredited college/ university &
compete in athletics at the college level; GPA 90+
Dyess
Officers' Spouses' Club Scholarships
Non-renewable scholarships for a dependent child
of an active duty, retired or deceased military member, or spouse of an
active duty military member to attend a 4-year or Community College. Several
scholarships will be awarded in each of the three categories as described
below.
Flying
J Scholarship
Graduating senior planning to enroll in an accredited
2 or 4 year college, university or vocational-technical school. GPA 3.0+
Academics, leadership, community and school activities, goals and financial
need considered.
Kim
and Jim Snyder Scholarship Fund (CFA)
Established by Kim and Jim Snyder in honor of
James R. Reynolds of Texas A&M University. The Abilene Texas A&M Club
Scholarship Committee recommends the recipient of this annual award to
attend Texas A&M University. Contact the Abilene Chapter of the Texas
A&M Club. Student must be a graduating senior in Callahan and Taylor County
High Schools. Contact the Abilene A&M Club (325-692-6255) to request consideration
and obtain an application form.
Nelson
Scholarship / Abilene Women's Club
Graduating senior planning to attend an accredited
college or university; GPA 85+; character and conduct beyond reproach;
financial need. Scholarship based on academics, community service and
financial need. Interviews for finalist will be conducted.
Margaret
Wheeler Kennedy Scholarship
The Margaret Wheeler Kennedy Scholarship is
available to a graduating senior who is in the top 25% of his/her graduating
class and who attends one of these churches: Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
St. Francis Catholic Church or St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church. The
applicant must also have been regular attendees in the Church's religious
education studies. If no applications are submitted from students attending
the above listed churches, an applicant who attends the Holy Family Catholic
Church may be considered for this award. Application available online

Marie
Denham Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
This fund was established by Mrs. Denham's family
in honor of her lengthy and valued career in the Abilene Independent School
District. An award is made annually to a graduating Abilene High Eagle
from an economically disadvantaged background who demonstrates promising
academic achievement.
Sheriff
John Middleton Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
Friends of the late Sheriff
John Middleton established this Fund to honor the Sheriff, who passed
away on September 21, 1991. Law enforcement personnel, their spouses,
and their children are eligible for this scholarship.
Support the Troops Scholarship
Program
Scholarships for
Hardin Simmons and McMurry Universities. To receive the award, the student's
military family member must have been enlisted, be presently enlisted
or injured during Operation Iraqi Freedom or during the war on terror.
HSU scholarship (available only to Abilene High School, Cooper High School
and Wylie High) is a one-time scholarship valued at $1,000. McMurry's
offers up to $6,000 a year, renewable for up to four years of education,
available to Abilene, Cooper, Wylie, Jim Ned or Clyde high school graduating
seniors. For more information on either scholarship, contact your guidance

Taylor Electric Cooperative,
Inc.
Scholarship $1,000 scholarships to vocational, college or university of
student's choice. Minimum grade point average is 85. Primary emphasis
will be placed upon scholastic ability, leadership qualities, with secondary
emphasis on financial need. Senior student must have parent or legal guardian
who is a Taylor Electric Cooperative, Inc member and must live within
the Taylor Electric service area in a permanent residence that is served
by Taylor Electric Cooperative with that parent or guardian. Scholarship

Quida
Jo Wright Scholarship
Funded by the late Mrs. Polly Wells. Her husband was
AISD Superintendent, she was President of the Abilene Women's Club. Financial
need is one criteria.
West
Texas Fair Association Odell Johnson Merit Award Scholarship
Must have an interest in study and show evidence
of probable success in his or her field of endeavor and must be a member
of a 4-H Club or FFA Chapter; a senior in high school with good grades
and attendance for a two year period; demonstrated a willingness to be
of service to his/her school , community and home by his or her involvement;
and have participated in activities or contests in the Livestock Department
of the West Texas Fair and Rodeo
West
Texas Hereford Association Curly Hays Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
Awarded by the Community Foundation of Abilene and honoring the memory
of Curly Hays. This scholarship goes to either a member of the Texas Junior
Hereford Assocation or to a student who has been an exhibitor at livestock
shows, particularily an exhibitor of Herefords. Applicants must be a Big
Country High School senior. Criteria will

Wilbur
H. "Blue" Denham Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
Established by Mr. Denham's family, this fund
honors "Blue" Denham, a long-time Abilene resident, a chartered
Life Insurance Underwriter from 1947 until 2000, and a 1940 graduate of
Texas A&M. He was an active supporter of the West Texas Fair and Taylor
County Expo Center. The Abilene Texas A&M Club Scholarship Committee recommends
the recipient of this annual award to attend Texas A&M University at College

Zach Robinson Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
Awarded by the Community Foundation of Abilene. In
honor of Cooper High graduate Zach Robinson. This $2,000 scholarship is
available to graduating AHS or Cooper senior who has exhibited a sustained
interest in golf and/or choir during their high school years. Must have
been enrolled in AHS or Cooper High a minimum of 2 years. May be used
for any 4-year or 2-year college or university.

A&M Club Scholarship
Graduating from a Taylor County High school
or one of the surrounding counties.

Not be a member or planning to be a member of an A&M athletic team that
competes in NCAA sanctioned events, either through an athletic scholarship
or by walk-on.

Graduating senior in top half of class (top
25 NOT eligible); attend Abilene Christian University, Hardin-Simmons
University or McMurry University. Selection will be made based on academic
potential, character and need for financial assistance.

Intercollegiate Scholarship in Computer Science/Information Technology
Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Systems majors
entering Abilene Christian University, Hardin-Simmons University, or McMurry
University may apply for scholarships. Scholarships are available to first-time
freshmen or new transfer* students who major in qualified computer science
programs.
Abilene Teachers Federal
Credit Union
is offering five $1,000 scholarships. Must have
an account with Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union to be eligible.
Abilene Restaurant Association
Scholarship- TSTC
Applicant must be enrolled in the TSTC Culinary
Arts Program, scholarship will be awarded one year at a time, Must have
overall GPA of 3.0

Sports Alliance Scholarships
One male and one female athlete from Abilene
Christian, Cooper, Abilene High School, and Wylie High Schools.
ACU
West Texas Scholars in Computer Science and Mathematics
West Texas Scholars in
Computer Science and Mathematics (WTSCSM) is a federally funded scholarship
program designed by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
at Abilene Christian University. The program will provide a total of 60
yearly scholarships over a four year period. There are six awards available
for the 2006-2007 school year. The maximum award will be $3,125 and is
renewable for up to three years.Applicants will be ranked by their perceived
interest in pursuing a career in computer science or mathematics, academic
preparation, standardized test scores, and financial need.

Country Home Builders Association- Women's Council Scholarship
Awarded to graduating senior boy or girl from
Abilene area. interested in homebuilding and/or a related field and planning
to attend a 4-year university, 2-year junior college or technical school.
Based on career aspirations, good character, financial need, grades and

Graduating senior planning to major or minor
in horticulure or agriculture in college.
Catherine
Aileen Smith-Jones Memorial Scholarship(CFA)
This fund was established to honor the life
of a young woman who graduated from Cooper High School in 1976, and attended
University of Texas in Austin. Cathy had an incredible spirit for life
and a remarkable ability to overcome adversity. Even in death, she offered
the gift of life through organ donations and tissue for research. This
annual award is for graduating seniors from Taylor County high schools
who are members of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Abilene, TX.
Chuck
and Doris Moser Scholarship (CFA)
This scholarship honors the late Chuck Moser
and his wife, Doris. Under Coach Moser's direction, the Abilene High football
team won state championships in 1954, 1955 and 1956. Coach Moser was known
for his high standards for integrity, academic performance and community
service. A scholarship is awarded annually to Abilene, Cooper or Wylie
High varsity athlete who demonstrates these attributes. Graduating

Applicants must be legal dependents of active
duty assigned to Dyess or a dependent of retired or deceased military

Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This
fund was established to honor Gilbert Cook (1960-2001), a devoted husband,
loving father and a special friend to many people. Applicant must be a
graduating senior from a high school in Taylor or Nolan Counties. Each
applicants scholastic achievements, financial need and potential for growth
in a college environment will be considered. In 2008, available for Wylie
and Trent high schools only.
Ginny
Michelle Ryan Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
Hal and Nancy Ryan established this fund
to honor the memory of their only daughter who was a sophomore at Wylie
High school at the time of her death in 1993. Two scholarships are awarded
annually - one to a senior from Wylie High School and one to a senior
from Paducah, Ginny's childhood home. Two scholarships will be awarded
annually - one to a senior from Wylie High School and one to a senior
from Paducah High School.

and Jean Stockton Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This fund awards a scholarship
to a student attending Texas Tech University, top 10% of high school class;
demonstrate personal integrity, character and academic achievement . The
recipient is chosen from graduating seniors at Abilene and Cooper High
Schools who exhibit academic excellence and ability. Criteria will be

Harry
and Mary Holt Scholarship
Applicant must be a current or past member of
4-H, FFA or FCCLA. Must have a 75+ overall GPA. Preference given to students
with an ag Journalism major. Scholarship amount approximately $1,000.
Applicant must have a 75 or better grade point average.
Herman
Ray "Buz" Buzbee, Jr. Memorial Music Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This scholarship, honoring the member of the
first graduating class from Cooper High School who composed the school's
fight song, is awarded annually to a graduating senior from Cooper who
has excelled in musical performance, exhibited interest and proficiency
in vocal and/or instrumental music through his/her participation in one
or more of the performing musical groups of Cooper High School. Contact

Hispanic
Leadership Council Awards (CFA)
This
fund was established in 2000 to award scholarships to outstanding Hispanic
students in the Big Country area. Annual awards can be used at universities,
junior colleges, or accredited vocational schools. Selections are made

Janet
Parkey Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
This scholarship is awarded annually to
an Abilene High School graduating senior who has been an outstanding citizen.
The Fund was originally established as the Abilene High Class of 1997
Scholarship, but was renamed to honor Janet Parkey, a long-time teacher
and administrator at Abilene High. Senior who has attended AHS the past
3 years and planning to pursue further education; GPA 80-90; good citizenship;
involvement in extracurricular activities and community activities.
Jay
Hatcher Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This scholarship was established by the Alumni
Association of the Abilene Citizens Police Academy to honor the memory
of Abilene police detective Jay Hatcher who was a victim of a pipeline
explosion in Potosi in September 2000. Children of Abilene police officers
are eligible for the Hatcher scholarship.
Johnathan
Tschaar Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This fund was established by friends of Johnathan
Tschaar, a sophomore at Abilene High when he died in 1995. This scholarship
is presented annually to a senior from a Taylor County high school who
has been an exhibitor at the Taylor County Livestock Show.
Junior
Achievement Scholarship
Graduating senior who participated in a Junior
Achievement program during high school; grade point average 3.0. Applicants
will be chosen based on participation in Junior Achievement, extracurricular
activities, leadership qualities, college/career potential and financial
need.
Kemper
Scott Hamilton Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
Scott Hamilton, an Abilene High graduate, lettered
in two sports and was named to the All-State football team during his
senior year. After his premature death in 1996, his friends established
this fund to honor his memory. An annual scholarship is awarded to an
Abilene High School student athlete who has exhibited leadership and initiative
both on the playing field and in the classroom. Contact Abilene High School

Kiwanis
Club Career and Technology Scholarship
Graduating seniors of Abilene High or Cooper
who have been enrolled in a vocational program or technology class and
plan to continue their vocational education in a degree-granting institution
or a technical or trade school. Recipient should demonstrate a need for
finacial assistance to complete college.
Kiwanis
Club of Abilene Foundation Scholarship
Based on academic achievement, extracurricular
activities, and financial need.

Phi Betta Kappa High School
Academic Excellence Award (juniors only)
Must be a junior having outstanding academic
records. Winners will receive certificates of recognition suitable for
presentation at awards ceremonies. Monetary awards will be given to the
top three candidates.

C Byrd Graduating senior in top 10% of class;
planning to attend a Texas college or university or an out of state institution
which is eligible to participate in Federal Title IV programs; SAT 1000+
or ACT 24+.
Ross
Jones Memorial Scholarship(CFA)
Ross Jones was an exuberant high school student,
who died tragically in an accident in 2001. His family established this
scholarship to provide needed financial aid to a Cooper Cougar senior
who demonstrates great drive and heart during participation in football
and/or soccer.
Ruth
and Bill Burton Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be a Senior with financial need,
strong academics, and intends to further their education.
Texas
Tech Club of Abilene Scholarship
Graduating from a Taylor County High School
or one of the surrounding counties. Accepted for Texas Tech enrollment
in the Fall of the following year.

Telephone Association Foundation Scholarship
Graduating senior will be chosen to apply; GPA
3.0+; planning to attend a Texas college or university; submit current
transcript and letter of acceptance; majors in telecommunications, math,
business, engineering or computer science given special consideration.
Tillie
Odam Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This fund is designed to assist students interested
in pursuing the health care profession. It honors Mrs. Tillie Odam who
was the director of Hendrick Hospital's Medical Record Technician School
for 24 years. This scholarship was established by Mrs. Odam's son, John,
and her former students. The scholarship committee of the Taylor Jones

Todd
Moore Memorial Golf Scholarship (CFA)
This fund honors Todd's memory by providing
scholarships to high school golfers needing financial assistance to attend
college. Todd was a student at the University of Texas and a member of
the Longhorn Golf Team at the time of his death.

Luce Scholarship for Advanced Placement Students
AP student who has passed at least two AP exams
by the end of his/her junior year; currently enrolled in at least two
AP classes in senior year; top 10% of class (44); Texas resident and US
Citizen. Applicants

Wes-Tex Drilling Co. - Robert
B. Cockrell Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
Established in 1998 by the Greathouse Foundation,
this fund memorializes Mr. Robert Cockrell, a founding partner of Wes-Tex
Drilling. Renewable scholarships are awarded each year to the children

Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This fund was established
by Wayne and Terri Moore of Coleman to honor the memory of their son,
Zach, who was tragically killed in a car/train accident in 1992. Scholarship
recipients are graduates of Coleman County school districts. This
scholarship only available for Coleman and Panther Creek ISD students.

Applicant must show documentation
of legal blindness; be a Texas resident; a cumulative high school GPA
of 3.0; acceptance for admission or current enrollment at a college or
vocational/trade school.

Graduating senior planning to study earth science
(examples: geology, water resource); essay and recommendation from science

Air Force Services Club
If a member of your family belongs to the Air
Force Service Clubs, you are eligible to be one of six individuals to
receive part of $25,000 in scholarships. For 2007, submit an essay on
"Why is air superiority critical today?" High school counselors have brochures

Citizens Bank, N.A.
Citizen Bank, N.A. offers three $1000 scholarships
to seniors graduating from Abilene High, Cooper and Wylie High Schools.
One scholarship will be awarded to a senior from each school. Applicants

Lee Yarbro Memorial Scholarship
Dani Lee Yarbro was a 1978 Graduate of Abilene
High School. ONE scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 in her
memory and is for a graduating female Abilene High School student who
has attended AHS for the last three years and plans to attend an accredited
four-year college or university. You must have a GPA of at least 80; show
evidence of involvement in the community through civic, church or volunteer
activities; have a good citizenship record; and obtain references from
two non-related adults. You can obtain an application in the Abilene High
counseling office.

Bridwell Memorial Scholarship
Graduating Abilene High or Cooper senior girl
who plans to attend a public university that participates in College or
University with National Panhellenic Sorority System. Applicant does not
have to participate in sorority rush for eligibility. Senior girl who
has shown scholastic achievement, participated in extracurricular activities
and who needs financial assistance to attend college. Applicant should
be of high moral character and display some evidence of leadership ability.
Randell
& Evangeline Watkins Scholarship
Offered by the Abilene Founder's Lions Club,
for students who are planning to attend an accredited four-year college
or university in Texas. Applicant must be ranked from #50 to #150 in his/her
graduating class to be eligible. Selected on basis of need for financial
assistance, academic potential, likelihood of success, and character.
Texas Exes /Abilene Scholarship
Scholarships
up to $3,000 will be given. Must be accepted and enroll for the fall semester
at UT Austin. Award also based on financial need. Awarded by the Abilene
Chapter of the Texas Exes. Contact your counselor for an application.

Texas Press Association Bob Craig Memorial Scholarship
One $2,000 scholarship awarded. Must be a graduating
senior who plans to pursue a career in community print journalism. Must
reside or attend school in the area served by the West Texas Press Association.

This
fund was established in 1999 by the Wagstaff, Alvis, Stubbeman, Seamster
and Longacre legal firm to honor the memory of Bob Alvis, one of their
founding partners. An annual scholarship award will be made to an area
student planning to attend Hardin Simmons University and a member of the
Cowboy Band. This fund is in a growth phase and no awards are available

which is awarded every fourth year. Eligible students are graduating seniors

Agents of Abilene Scholarship Fund (CFA)
This fund was created in 1998 by the Independent
Insurance Agents to honor a graduating senior from Abilene High, Cooper
or Wylie who has exhibited interest and aptitude in the American free

and George Minter Memorial Scholarship (CFA)
Mary and George Minter were Abilene leaders
proud of their city's unique personality. This scholarship was established

Stanley and Claudie Wilson established this
